PAVILLON DE FRANCE World Expo Osaka 2025
Creative director
My role was to design and create the layout of all the spaces that complement the permanent exhibition and help convey its messages to all visitors of the Pavilion, from the general public to professional areas such as the patrons' lounge and the protocol room. I am particularly committed to showcasing and advocating for a vision of French creation that is both realistic and poetic, historical and contemporary, rich and diverse in its forms—whether it be art, design, music, floral art, and more.
The unique Franco-Japanese relationship has always fueled artistic imagination and remains a constant source of inspiration for many creators. I do not know a single French artist who does not admire Japanese culture: from the urban energy of Shibuya to the beaches of Okinawa, the volcanic forests of Yakushima, from Zen and Shintō traditions to manga and anime—Japan never ceases to fascinate with its beauty, precision, and refinement, while also embracing a certain playful and extravagant spirit. In return, the Japanese have never stopped affirming the strength of their reciprocal connection with France, which remains one of their favorite destinations, reflected even in Japanese brand names playfully borrowing from the French language.
The Pavilion embodies this mutual attraction, offering a glimpse into the French artistic scene of yesterday, today, and tomorrow. It is a tribute to the love of France in Japan, expressed through decorative arts, craftsmanship, photography, color, nature, and floral art. I have infused three main themes into the Pavilion: French decorative arts, Japanese decorative arts, and the natural beauty shared by both countries.
