At the invitation of the French Institute, which was presenting the Nuit Blanche event for the first time in Kyoto (twin city to Paris), José Lévy created '24 First Days in Kyoto.

“In Kyoto for a period of five months, in residence at Villa Kujoyama, I presented diptychs of photographs (split screen) for Nuit Blanche. These were composed of daily snapshots taken here since my arrival, juxtaposed with photos from my image library. It was, in essence, a memory in the making in contrast with a memory already anchored in my mind. The project was projected on a large scale and accompanied by the music I listen to here: the unique sound of Kyoto's mountain nature mixed with Gagaku and a hint of classical music. On the ground, a pattern was composed of 50 Diptyque candles of various blended fragrances…”
